We started
with one
blocked drain.
Youth's Corner started in 2024 with a small group of young people in Langata who were tired of watching the same streets flood every season and hearing the same explanations afterwards.

How a Saturday
became an organisation.

It started with a drain
Not a strategy document. A blocked channel that everyone walked past and nobody owned, on a road that went under every time it rained properly. A handful of people cleared it one Saturday because waiting for someone else to had stopped being realistic.

The part that made it stick
Clearing it once was easy. Coming back was the hard part, and it is where most efforts like this quietly end. What kept it going was making the work social — a fixed morning, a crew you knew, and visible proof by lunchtime that the street was better than it had been at breakfast.

From a habit to an organisation
Once the clean-ups were regular, the gaps became obvious. Flooding needed readiness work, not just clearing. Readiness needed households to be reachable, which meant mobilisation. And volunteers needed to eat, which meant the services side. Each part exists because the one before it was not enough on its own.

Where it stands now
Four areas of work, two partner organisations in Kenya Red Cross and Nairobi County, and a model built specifically for a sub-county that floods and burns. Still entirely youth-led, which was never a slogan — it is simply who does the work.

Two partners bring training standards, emergency experience and institutional standing.

Njiri Primary becomes the anchor site
Tree planting settles on school grounds, where seedlings are watched daily and survive.

Bookable skills from members, so showing up for the community stops costing a living.
